Mark Brunswick 2026 Hall of Fame Inductee
Bellefontaine, Marysville and Lehman Catholic High Schools
Mark Brunswick was born and raised in Coldwater by his parents Louis and Ann Brunswick and graduated from Coldwater High School in 1984 where he was a part of back to back state titles in 1983 and 1984. He lettered in baseball and basketball and played for his legendary and Hall of Fame father, Lou “Sweet Lou” Brunswick, where he learned invaluable life lessons.
After high school, Mark was drafted by the New York Mets in the third round of the 1984 draft, where he played five years in the organization. Mark learned the game of baseball from the late Davey Johnson and Buddy Harrelson.
Mark then obtained his undergraduate and graduate degree from Wright State University and was fortunate to start his teaching and coaching career at Bellefontaine High School. While a big thank you goes to Marysville and Lehman Catholic for several years of great memories, Mark will always cherish his years at Bellefontaine. With the help of legendary football coach Greg Peitsmeyer and William Roberts, Mark began his career at Bellefontaine where Mark still considers home. He coached 24 years at the school where so many memories were created and relationships developed for a lifetime and his teams were the mainstay of the community. Mark thanks you all as an award like this is not an individual award, but a group effort.
At Bellefontaine, Marysville, and Lehman Catholic, Mark
has a record of 502-165, 14 league titles, 13 District appearances, six Regional Appearances, two State Final Four appearances in 2004 and 2006, was ABCA District 4 National Coach of the Year, placed over 90 players in college or professional ranks, coached 11 Collegiate Baseball Magazine All-Americans, coached 20 All-Ohio players and coached 38 All-Academic All-Ohio players.
Mark’s 2006 Bellefontaine team had six Division I players and was ranked 19th nationally through Collegiate Baseball magazine.
Mark also had two ABCA National Fields of Year at Bellefontaine and Marysville, is a member the ABCA National Ranking Committee, and has had several articles published by Inside Pitch and Collegiate Baseball magazines.
For his 500th win, Mark was presented a bat from Kurt Barhorst and Joe Lachey families. This will forever be a keepsake for him.
Mark has been blessed to be part of a baseball family through his father, and his brothers, Tom and Jeff, who are major coaches in the baseball community. Mark still remembers the days that his father would take the boys to the baseball clinic to be part of the association. So many relationships, friends, and memories developed through this amazing organization of coaches.
Finally, Mark and his wife Gay have been married for 39 years and have been blessed to have two children, MacKenzie Brunswick Crabtree (29) and Benjamin (25). Mark and Gay reside in Bellefontaine. Mark and Gay have two grandchildren, Louis “Sweet Lou” Crabtree and Olivia Crabtree. The definition of a coach’s wife is Mark’s soulmate, Gay, an amazing person who sacrificed so much for Mark to continue his passion. By marrying into the Brunswick family she knew baseball would be a big part of their lives!
Thank you to everyone who has touched Coach Brunswick’s life. You are the heroes in his life. God Bless you all. Thank you for giving him your heart and dedication. Being able to see his players grow into fine young men and fathers is the best accomplishment that he has ever witnessed.
